EUREKA 2006: top British designers join project for third successful year

Putting design at the heart of the British retail and commercial markets, for a third successful year, the Eureka project promotes excellence in the design process. The wide range of products in Eureka 2006 are all being created by Design-Nation members, based on briefs from invited UK retailers and manufacturers. Bridging the gap between designer, manufacturer and end-user, the project aims to create a platform for innovative and commercially viable products.

This year's Eureka retailers include three past contributors: John Lewis, Watts Contemporaries and Heal's, as well as two new companies who come to the project for the first time: Brintons and Christopher Wray. Each company is working alongside designers from Design-Nation's membership to fulfil briefs for a range of products which include furniture (cabinet and upholstery), bone china vessels, printed stationery and gift wrapping, a range of shower curtains and contract carpeting.

Designers involved in Eureka 2006 include Andrew Tanner, who has created a range of bone china vessels for Watts Contemporaries, Ella Doran, who has created a range of printed accessories for John Lewis including shower curtains, gift boxes, cards and wrapping paper, and Kay + Stemmer, who have worked to a furniture brief set by Heal's as part of Heal's Discovers 3 collection. Timorous Beasties are working on a commercial carpet brief from Brintons, and last year's Laurent-Perrier Design Award winner Rock Galpin is working on a brief to create a new upholstered sofa for Christopher Wray. Highlighting the international reputation of British contemporary design, this prestigious list includes some of the most exciting and innovative product designers currently working in the UK.

The Eureka exhibition, running as part of the London Design Festival and 100% Guaranteed, will be on show to the public at the.gallery@oxo, Oxo Tower Wharf, Bargehouse Street, London SE1 9PH from 20 September to 1 October 2006, open daily 11am to 6pm, admission free. Eureka 2006 will play host to the Laurent-Perrier Design Award for the third consecutive year. This prestigious annual award will be made to one of the Eureka designers chosen by a panel of judges. The award consists of £2000, a jeroboam of Laurent-Perrier Brut Non-Vintage champagne.
